But the fact of the matter is Gerrard Tsutekowa hit a grand slam home run with this piece. He delivered to the community more that they could have bargained for. Most impressive to me was the way the public -especially the children reaction to the statue. As I was able to observe while being there a couple of times and talking with different people. there is a not uncommon feeling expressed that the park area itself was over developed and did not seem to offer much fort the amount of work done there. But even among hose who I heard expressing this opinion as they approached the statue, of the majority of these; their tone changed as they got withing an intimate distance from the Salish Sea Cicle. I predict that one day in the not two distant future pretty much everyone in this community will recognize the piece for what it is. I would like to say that my appearance on the front page had more to do with me doing something special -but that is probably only slightly the case.

Bio - Marty David

“Capturing the essence… that’s what it is all about for me and my artwork”, says landscape painter Martin Justin David.

Plein-air is his style. Marty packs his French easel with him; an artists’ box-contraption that he unfolds on the spot at whatever wharf or whatever street or field or bridge suits his fancy.

“I paint what inspires me at the moment and I feel a part of it all somehow when it happens. When that happens and I can capture it in a painting… that’s golden!”

Marty moved to Port Townsend, Washington in the summer of ’99 and has called the Olympic Peninsula home since then, traveling and painting around the Peninsula and also other parts of the Puget Sound region, where he says he never runs out of inspiration, or subjects.
